Lifetime employment contract is against public policy
A appellate court in New York state has held that a lifetime employment between the Dedalus Foundation and its executive director is unenforceable because it is void as against public policy. Joan Banach claimed that she had been assured by artist Robert Motherwell that she would be employed as long as she wanted to foster the appreciation of his work. She had been originally hired in 1981 as his curator, cataloguer and assistant. Over time she helped prepare major museum exhibitions of his work, and co-authored two definitive books about him.
