Agency liable for willful violation of Equal Pay Act
A federal District Court in New York City has found a nonprofit agency liable for a willful violation of the Equal Pay Act. It has granted summary judgment to a woman who complained that the agency paid a man more than it paid her for performing the same job. Stephanie Sandor worked as a Human Resource Manager for Safe Horizon, Inc., a nonprofit advocating for victims of crime and abuse, at a fulltime salary of $47,500. When another manager went out on maternity leave, the agency hired Richard Brown to replace her temporarily at a salary of $44,750 as an 80% time employee, a fulltime rate of $55,940.
