Our small 501(c)(3) nonprofit plans to purchase gifts at Christmastime for needy children in our area. We are stumped on this question: Is it alright to call it a "Christmas" gift-giving, or do we need to call it a "holiday" event? In past years we've called it a holiday event, but our board is now divided on this question.
I feel confident in saying you can call it whatever you want. I feel almost as confident in saying that no matter what choice you make, some people will be unhappy. You should choose the name your board feels most comfortable with, considering your role in the community and the identity of the kids you will be helping.
There isn’t any legal reason you would have to use one name or the other. Perhaps you can compromise and use a name something like the one I used in the headline because I did not want to choose. That way you might make everyone unhappy.
